Tsugaru Dam
Tsugaru Dam in Nishimeya Village is the entrance to Shirakami-Sanchi。The dam is in the upper reaches of Iwaki River, which rises in Shirakami-sanchi, and is the largest dam in Aomori Prefecture, with a height of 97.2m and width of 342m. The dam received Japan`s Good Design Award in 2017. You can see this impressive dam in its entirety from the observation deck in the Dam Park.
In addition, Tsugaru Dam`s reservoir is called Tsugaru-Shirakami Lake, and from Spring to Autumn it is used for amphibious bus tours and activities such as canoeing and paddle boarding.
